An internal medicine resident at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, Allen Elster, MD, is responsible for caring for patients throughout their entire stay at the hospital. Dedicated to staying active within the professional community, Dr. Allen Elster belongs to two national medical organizations, one of which is the American College of Physicians.
A national organization dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of health care, the American College of Physicians (ACP) maintains a wide range of membership types for physicians who share a passion for the organization’s mission. Resident/Fellow Membership is available to individuals who are training in or have been accepted to an accredited postgraduate program for either medicine pediatrics or internal medicine. It is also available to individuals who are training in a fellowship program for any internal medicine subspecialty and individuals who are completing any public health or military service that is required of them before starting their training.
Resident/Fellow members are required to pay annual dues of $119. Once members receives their certification in internal medicine, the ACP automatically advances their membership to a regular member position, which costs between $235 and $490 a year, depending on how long they have been out of medical school. Members can opt out of the automatic advancement or request an extension of their Resident/Fellow Member status if they are going into a fellowship program.
